January 1, 2023: Matthew 2:13-23 Escape to and Return from Egypt

This week we discuss the story of Jesus’ escape to Egypt, the murder of the innocents, and the return from Egypt. It is not a story we commonly preach about, but we see how Matthew points toward the fulfillment of God’s saving purpose even in these events. This foreshadows the conflict that even the birth of Jesus provoked, and would ultimately lead to his death on the cross.
